Break Dancers sire Hokeykokey28 was rushed to stud after finishing first or second in five of eight starts, never trying a stakes race. His works indicated some natural talent, but not enough to convince his connections to try a racing career. It is likely the lure of the excellent bottom bloodline HRP-Aster sent him to the shed early. The dam Killer Jinx was retired a maiden and her first offspring is Break Dancer. We have to look back to her grandsire to find black type in Vatican City, although her sire was stakes placed. Graded stakes winner Vatican City was third in the 04 BC Classic. Hi Jinx was stakes placed in the early days of HRP racing.

The only truly black type on Social Rejects bloodline is the excellent dam of his sire, Social Disease. She brings to the line a preference for mile dirt, which may have influenced his Derby run, although he did not seem too intimidated coming from off the pace to take the IL Derby. His grandsire on the bottom line is Robbie which was in the early days the number one sire on the General Sire List, but has fallen out of fashion and down to number 49 on the List.

La Tache is the product of two relatively non-noteworthy auto-gens and certainly a genetic surprise. Taco Taco Taco was a $100.000+ auction purchase which won only one race and ran for a claiming tag of $12.500 before being retired to stud. La Tache is the first real success for his breeder who continues to fill his book each season. The dam, Gone Lala, may have been a race horse, but was never given the chance being retired after winning one of two starts. Her breeder believed in her matching to Taco Taco Taco, pairing them in all breedings until her death.

Blackberry Road is inbred to multiple graded stakes winner and number 10 on the General Sire List Hennessy and bred on both sides to black type mares. On the top is BC Distaff champion Java Jive, daughter the excellent HRP-Cadeaux Genereux bloodline. That pairing resulted in minor winner Tiznow for which Blackberry Road is the first major breeding success. On the dam side Hennessy was bred to BC FM Turf winner Majesty which resulted in non-winner Tale Of Two Cities. The abundance of black type a generation back has come to the forefront here.

Faithful Spirits top side literally reeks with black type starting with Hold The Spirit number 3 on the General Sire List. Grandsire Threshhold earned $1,649.960 in his long career and is the result of the pairing of two excellent HRP bloodlines with HRP-Nasrullah on the male side and HRP-War Admiral on the female side. Grand dam Grade I stakes winner Spirit of Australia boasted excellent blood as well. On the dam side Faithful Star is granddaughter of the mating of graded stakes winner Fox Hound and stakes winner Frontseat Lover Girl which is by successful sire Dale.

Rebellion comes from two average lines that seem to lean toward a product that would be more suited to short turf races rather than classic distance dirt racing. Yet, he handled the SA Derby gamely coming from well off the pace. His only failures were running on the pace. Although basically outrun in the Derby, he was passing horses at the end.

Like Nows sire Cant Sleep Tonight was retired after two hopeless attempts at racing. He was bought back at auction by his breeder for $7.770, probably because of his breeding. He is out of Dani, which is the dam of KYD winner Dani Dauntless and sired by another unsuccessful racer which boasted black type parents in KYD winner Sleepless Nights and GSW Switched At Birth. That puts two Derby winners in just his top line. The bottom line has a bit of black type as well with BC Sprint winner Romeo as great grandsire and Grade I winner Institutional as the other great grandsire.
