PSerenity Stables Timepiece captured the Test of Champions on Saturday, beating Fusion the KYD winner by four lengths to take the BEL Stakes. The win also reaffirmed Timepiece as one of the best three-year olds in running if not one of the best three-year olds we have seen here in HRP racing.
Ridden patiently by jockey M Guidry Timepiece bided his time then surged to the forefront as the horses straightened out for the stretch drive. The timing was perfect as it was a jump on his rival Fusion who was beginning to pick up steam. From that point on it was the springs two top three year olds heading the field. Fusion however could not manage to close the gap on Timepiece in a very good effort by the
Derby winner. Chien Ming Wang made a big late move to finish third and the ever tough Penal Colony finished fourth after being part of the pace throughout much of the 1-1/2m distance.
With the win, this will place Timepiece back on top as the number one three-year old while Fusion remains a close second which also means we will likely see these two meet on a couple of more occasions to determine who the best is. Each has captured a leg of the Triple Crown so a rivalry is born.
