It was a muddy afternoon at
Hawthorne but that never stopped the horses from running, a seven race card that included the feature race for Two-year-old fillies the Illinois Debutante which drew a small field of four fillies. The heavy favorite in the betting She Can Do It prevailed narrowly to capture her first ever Stakes race and also her first ever race going two turns.
The field of four got off to a great start on the muddy track but Daring Reality shot out to the front almost two lengths clear of the favorite She Can Do It, a few lengths back was Miss Isle and Queen Of The Peter was left to do her running from the back as usual. They pass the wire for the first time and go around the clubhouse turn to the back stretch and still Daring Reality was comfortable on the lead with She Can Do It close in behind her, further back Queen Of The Peter caught up with Miss Isle and they were running as a team waiting on a perfect time to make their moves.
As they approached the half Queen Of The Peter and Miss Isle began to devour the gap that separated them from the two runners up front and as the back markers made their way to the front She Can Do It started to inch closer to the front on the turn for home.
As the head to the top of the stretch Daring Reality was still holding on dearly to the lead but an engaging She Can Do It was right there on her heels readying her move for the stretch run but Queen Of The Peter would not be left out of that mix as her jock positioned her well on the rail for her stretch run. Almost a furlong to go and Daring Reality was still clinging to the lead but the deadly late kicks of She Can Do It on the outside and down on the rail Queen Of The Peter were coming with a fury, Miss Isle was also coming but not fast enough. She Can Do It snuck her head in front of the field but she never inched away as Daring Reality would not give up and Queen Of The Peter was still running-on on the rail, the wire quickly approaching and no telling who was going to win the race and in a desperate attempt to hold off Queen Of The Peter Martinez shock She Can Do It and changed the stick and she responded and lunged towards the wire winning by a nose over Queen Of The Peter with Daring Reality and Miss Isle third and fourth respectively.
She Can Do It now has two wins from seven starts and this is her first takes victory, the black filly is by Youngbull out of the Five Star General mare Another Volcano. Bred in the state of
New Jersey she is owned and trained by Nj Vets.
