SSM Fillies & Mares Sprint
For Fillies and Mares Four Year Olds And Upward Foaled in Florida
Going Six Furlongs on the Dirt Course
For a purse of $150.000
at Gulfstream Park
on Saturday January 28, 2012
This is the ninth year that the SSM Fillies & Mares Sprint has been run at HRP. In the past eight years there has been two trainers that has won this race more than once. In 2006 trainer Pumpkin Racing saddled Dutch Duchess and then won again in 2010 with Black Moon Dixie both four year olds. In 2008 and 2009 trainer 30west won with Blonde Dynamite, once as a five year old then back as a six year old. Back in 2011 trainer Ken Allan saddled the winner Roman Faith who holds the race record with a time of 1:10.53. The track record was set by Seeya with a time of 1:08.15 saddled by Jerry Garcia Racing on January 8, 2005. The track has been fast there and it looks like there is about a 30 to 40 percent chance of rain each day before this big race each. Lets look at the 2012 entries
1 Kissed A Girl
Owned by La Canada Racehorses
Bred by Night Mare Racing
Sire Original Synn
Dam Important Cat
Life Record 18-10-3-2
Kissed A Girl has already been busy in her 5 year old campaign as she scored a win in the Grade III Monrovia Stakes at Santa Anita going six and a half furlongs. In November he raced in the Breeders cup Sprint Grade II where she just missed and was beat by three quarters of a length by The Rebel. Has been training really well over the sod down at Mountaineer and even received a bullet workout on December 16, 2011. All ten of her wins are on the sod, so that means she only has one start over the dirt. I think she was placed her in hopes to catch a small field. Wild card factor here!
2 Mya Marie
Owned by Dynark Stables
Bred by Mshot Stables
Sire Colins Ransom
Dam Panicosas Causeway
Life Record 15-5-5-3
Mya Marie comes into Saturday with a sharp workout at Gulfstream Park with a :57 and four fifths workout at five furlongs. She has been training well, and looks to be sharp for this race. She comes off a run in the Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Sprint Grade I where she was involved early but faded quickly to be ninth. Prior to that start she had three in a row. Those wins came from and Allowance, Grade III Victory Road and Grade II Raven Run. Edgar Prado gets back in the saddle for Saturday, and that is a great sign. SRF Speed Figures rate among the best in this field. Looks like the one to beat.
3 Troy Trojan
Owned and Bred by Maverick Racing
Sire Excellent Gigi
Dam She Hears Thunder
Life Record 19-5-4-5
Troy Trojan was a winner in October against Florida Statebreds in an Optional Claimer $50.000 Non Winners of 4 races. Back in March he won the Grade III Cicada. Recently she has been struggling to win at a consistent clip. As of late she has been close, so that means you might want to use her in the exotics. Her SRF Speed Figures rate among the lowest in the field, we are look elsewhere here.
4 Charger A
Owned and Bred by Thinken Stables
Sire Diego Charger
Dam Aa Robbie
Life Record 16-4-4-1
Charger A comes into this race after just missing by a head to Kapok in the Buffalo Trace Franklin County. His last win came from an Allowance up at Saratoga Race Course against Non Winners of 3 races lifetime. Has a nice bullet workout here on January 21 going :57 and three fifths over the dirt course at five furlongs. Her SRF Speed Figures rate in the middle of this class of horses. Should place well here, and hit the board.
5 Kobla
Owned by Sanny Village
Bred by Mshot Stables
Sire Evil Ransom
Dam Rockin Cigars
Life Record 13-4-0-3
Kobla makes her second start for Sanny Village after being acquired for a mere $92.360 from her breeder. In her first start for Sanny Village she finished a disappointing third place by two lengths in the Sugar Swirl Grade III here. Here last win came from a win in the Grade III Endine at Delaware Park at todays distance. Nice bullet workout on January 20 here going 1:10 and one fifth over the six furlongs. Her last eight works have been bullet works. Her SRF Speed Figures rate in the middle of the pack as of recent. Looks to return sharply as she makes her second start for Sanny Village.
