The Holy Bull Stakes-GIII
1/29/2012 GP Race #6 1m Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $400.00 For Three-Year Olds
Condottieri started his 2012 campaign with a solid win this weekend in the ninth running of the GII Holy Bull Stakes at GP. the good looking bay colt ran up front all the way to win by a length over Not Much There. Flying Destiny, the talented newcomer filly, ran well with the boys for a second time and finished a nose back in third. Her sire Date With Destiny won this race back in 2008. No doubt the old boy was smiling this weekend as he frolicked with the ladies down on the farm.
Home Again broke sharply from the seven spot to get the race rolling. He soon found himself on the far outside as number eight Champion Instincts was taken up and inside. Home Again pressed forward until clear and then angled in to take the lead on rail. His brief lead ended within seconds, as first Condottieri and then Flying Destiny shot past, both also looking to settle inside before the rail. Not Much There pushed forward just enough to foil their plans, though neither were out further than three as they turned for home. Home Again and Champion Instincts stalked the front running trio, followed by Pan A Ram and Motivator. Burnsuwhenitshot trailed early and never factored today.
Condottieri led the field through the turn and to the top of the stretch. Not Much There surged forward to challenge him for the lead. Champion Instincts drew up alongside Flying Destiny and soon it quickly became a four horse race.
Condottieri drew clear by a length as the neared the wire. Not Much There fell back as the filly Flying Destiny came back on again, closely shadowed by Champion Instincts. Condottieri won easily in front but it took a photo to sort out who finished behind him. In the end, it was Not Much There getting second by a nose over Flying Destiny, with Champion Instincts finishing fourth on half length back.
Condottieri is a three year old son of Il Miglio Fabro. Owner Jerry Garcia Racing bred the colt in Kentucky. His victory today marks his second graded stakes win and improves his record to 7-3-1-0 with $476.400 in earnings.
