The four fillies all lined up on Saturday on the Good sod for the SSM Fillies & Mares Turf. Suleena would go off as the even money favorite, while Deal Breaker would go off at six to five. Both Hails Ground and Cheval En Argent would go off as the long shots in this four horse field at six to one. Lets look at how this race unfolded.
Cheval En Argent has never raced on the off sod, and today she got a taste of just that. Only had breaking her Maiden, lined up and broke well from the gate to be three across the grandstand about a half a length from the pace leader Suleena at the opening quarter. From there she just stalked the pace within half a length through the club house turn, and the backstretch. She out ran Hails Ground early to be in right behind Suleena the even money favorite. Joe Bravo started to shake the reins as the field came out of the far turn, and into the stretch. She rallied, and Suleena fought back down the stretch, but it would be Cheval En Argent to get up in the last jump to win by a neck. She was one of the longest shots on the board, and she paid $15.60 to win, and Iwin and The Tout had nothing on her today. This gives Cheval En Argent her second win, and her first Graded Stakes win. Her total career earnings are now $135.600. She is owned and bred by First Flight Stable.
Suleena the even money favorite broke out on top. She brought the field to the half mile in :48 and three fifths. She continued on the lead to the three quarters pole where she posted a 1:12 and two fifths. In the stretch she dueled with Cheval En Argent, and in the final jumps loss to Cheval En Argent. Suleena finished second and is owned and bred by Goforwand.
Deal Breaker broke out to be last early. She started to make a run for the lead in the stretch. She was outrun by Cheval En Argent and Suleena to finish third for Dynark Stables.
Hails Ground showed some early speed in the opening quarter. Certainly did not look like she handled the off going as she faded quickly to finish fourth.
Until next time this is Iwin signing off!
