21-1 Sizzling Wife Posts Huge Upset in Sweetest Chant

The $100.000 The Sweetest Chant ended in a shocker Sunday

at Gulfstream, as Sizzling Wife came home to a 1/4 of a length

win in the one mile turf race for three-year-old fillies. Sent off as

the second longest shot in the race at 21-1, and with morning

line odds of 50-1, Sizzling Wife flew under the radar here, and

finished the race in a final time of 1:33.57, which is a new stakes

record for The Sweetest Chant.

The only filly in the race who already had a start in 2012, Sizzling

Wife made her stakes debut here, and this was her first start for

trainer Pjr Farms, who claimed the filly for $40.000 out of her last

race on 1/1/12.

True Sweetness, as the lone filly in the field with a stakes win had

to carry six more pounds than the rest of the field, which proved to

be too much to overcome, as she continually lost ground after the

1/2 mile pole, and faded to finish a disappointing last, ten lengths

from the winner. Rebel O Gold, the post time favorite, ran a bit of

a puzzling race, finishing 5th, four lengths back, after having won at

this distance in her last race, where the race fractions and finish time

were nearly the same. We will have to see if she comes out of this

race with any problems that could explain her performance here.

Sizzling Wife is a three-year-old filly by Flaming Pretense, and for

her win in The Sweetest Chant, took home $60.000 which gives her

career earnings of $110.590, and a race record of 8-3-3-1.

Awesome Victory who like the winner, was also claimed out of her

last start, finished 2nd in her first start for Kopites, earned $20.000,

while My Voyager, who is trained by The Fox was 3rd, and took

home $16.000 for the show spot.

How the race was run:

6   Sizzling Wife: Won by 1/4 of a length. Broke sharply and went

out to the lead, and was 1/4 of a length in front at the quarter pole.

By the 1/2 mile mark, she led a neck, in front of the 5 horse, who

then passed her, and Sizzling Wife was 2nd a nose back at the

3/4 mark. Was able to make one last surge before the wire to

reclaim the lead and get 1/4 of a length in front for the win.

-Ran a wonderful race. This was her stakes debut, and she had

never run longer than 5 furlongs over the grass, yet was able to

get her first stakes win in The Sweetest Chant, and do so in a

     new stakes record.

5   Awesome Victory: Finished in 2nd, 1/4 of a length behind the

winner. Got a great break, and was taken up towards the front,

where at the quarter pole she was in 3rd, 1/2 a length off of the

lead. By the 1/2 mile mark, she had moved into 2nd and was

only a neck behind the leader, then just before the 3/4 mark,

she took the lead and was a nose in front, but was passed

shortly after by the 6 horse who pulled in front, and Awesome

     Victory finished 2nd.

-Ran a great race here, and just missed the win. She had won

her last two starts prior to The Sweetest Chant, and although

one was a MSW for State Breds, and the other an Optional

Claiming race, she was ready here, and she showed it. One

     to watch for this spring.

2   My Voyager: Finished 3rd, three lengths behind the winner.

After the break, dropped back where she ran 7th, three back

from the lead at the quarter pole. By the 1/2 mile, she was

able to pass the 3 and 7 horses, to be 5th, two lengths off the

lead, and then passed the 8 horse to take 4th. At the 3/4 mile

she had passed the 1 horse for 3rd, still two lengths back, and

then right before the wire she lost a length finishing three from

     the winner in 3rd place.

-Ran a nice closing race, steadily gaining ground and position.

Distance may have been a bit long since she lost a length just

before the wire, but it could also have been the pace that made

her tire slightly. Just has the maiden win, so she would likely

benefit from some allowance races to get more consistent, but

definitely one to watch in the future.

3   Unlv Swimming Rebel: Finished 4th, four lengths behind the

winner. After the break, dropped back and ran 6th, and was two

lengths off the leader at the quarter pole. Continued on in 6th

until before the 3/4 mile, when she passed the 2 horse for 5th

and was then able to pass the 1 horse just before the wire to

be 4th, but was beginning to slow and dropped to four lengths

     back to finish in 4th.

-Closed well, but just before the wire couldn't keep up with the

first three finishers and she lost two lengths, to finish four from

the winner. Has not been able to finish in the money now in all

four of her stakes races, so think we will see her drop back to

run in allowance races until she gets a bit faster. Watch for her

     later this spring.

8   Rebel O Gold:  Finished in 5th, four lengths from the winner.

Broke sharply and at the quarter pole was in 2nd, just 1/4 of a

length of the leader. Before the 1/2 mile pole, she was passed

by the 5 horse and was 3rd one length back, and then looked

like she tired and by the 3/4 mile had fallen to two lengths back

and had fallen to 6th. Continued to lose ground, fading to four

lengths back, but passed a tiring 1 horse to finish 5th.

-Not really sure what happened to Rebel O Gold here. Sent off

as the race favorite, she was coming off a win at this distance

where the pace and finish time were almost the same as here

in The Sweetest Chant. We may see her drop back and run in

some more allowance races until she gets more consistent in

her distance preferences. She has a lot of natural talent and

may just need to mature a bit more.

1   Ordo Ab Chao: Finished 6th, four lengths behind the winner.

Broke alertly and ran well up the rail, where at the quarter pole

she was 4th, one length off the leader, and continued to run

there until before the 3/4 mile pole. Around the 3/4 mark she

looked full of run and passed the 8 horse to move into 3rd, and

then she encountered a little traffic and tight racing quarters,

which seemed to cause her to lose focus, and she faded back

to finish 6th, four lengths back.

-Pretty surprised at how she ran here. This was her first time to

face non-state bred restricted company, but she was doing very

well early in the race, and it was almost as if she lost interest

after she ran up behind horses. She's very lightly raced, so may

just need to mature some. Feel like she could get really good,

so watch for her in the future.

4   Cc Fear Her:  Finished in 7th, five lengths behind the winner.

Dropped back early to trail the field in 8th place, and was four

lengths off of the lead at the quarter pole. Continued on in 8th

and lost a length to be five back just before the 1/2 mile pole,

and before the 3/4 mile pole, she passed the tiring 7 horse to

take 7th place, where she finished five lengths back.

-Just don't think Cc Fear Her is quite ready for the stakes level

races at this point. Pace here was much faster than what she

has faced, and she was never able to up get closer than four

lengths to the leader. Think we will see her drop down to the

allowance races until her speed figures and works improve.

7   True Sweetness: Finished in 8th, ten lengths from the winner.

Broke well and at the quarter pole was in 5th, two lengths off of

the leader, then before the 1/2 mile mark looked like she was

beginning to tire, getting passed by the 1 and 3 horses, to be

7th, four lengths back, and then she was finished, fading badly

to finish last, ten lengths behind the winner.

-Ran well early, but by the 1/2 mile pole, she was done, losing

ground rapidly, and it looked like with the extra six pounds she

carried here, the added weight just pulled her backwards. Her

graded stakes win last September was at this distance, but the

pace was quite a bit slower than Sunday's. Think we will see her

go back to allowance races and she won't have weight penalties

and can regroup, and then try stakes again later.
