RACE 11 GG El Camino (GIII)
$230.000 3yo 1 1/8m Dirt
The 3yo's are trying to climb that ladder to get to Louisville, and we have a field of ten in the 20111 El Camino (GIII)... which did produce 2009 PRK winner, Like Now. I am really stuck between Watch 4 The Sailor and Super Six - and since neither will seem to be favorites, let's put a couple of bucks on each, hoping to make a profit.
Super Six is lightly raced and will probably be double-digit odds, but I like the horses that have come from the WO 2yo races. With the money they race for up there, talent migrates.. and he's held his own, despite the ON-bred note on those tow wins. Watch 4 The Sailor always gives it his all, and no reason to think otherwise today. I like that he's raced over the surface and has a string of works here as well. It should be a good one!
1 Willow Grove kicked of the '11 season with an even try at SA in the Sham Stakes (GIII) where he was the luke-warm 5/2 favorite. Obviously, he will need a bit more to get the job done here, and does show a pair of nice am gallops getting ready.
2 Dukified makes his return to the races after that 12th of 14 finish on BC Day. Sure, that was a tough group, but when it says "graded stakes", they are ALL tough - he'd best pack his lunch.
3 Sabers Edge nice run here last out when second in the CA Derby, beaten a length. His two wins have come against MSW and Alw foes, so he will need to show a bit more to get my attention.
4 Sea Eagle was seventh in his only try against stakes company, and that's just not enough to warrant a serious look here. Third v. Alw foes, which against is a very strong turn-off.
5 Fabro II close in all of his tries, but only his maiden win, and despite my fondness for his sire, he will need to show a whole bunch more to get any part of this.
6 Cuyahoga Challenge closed out '10 with a horrible effort in the CC Futurity, which was stacked with talent, but he just never lifted a foot. Can he find some of that old magic and get back to it, or will this be another walk around the oval.
7 Watch 4 The Sailor was third in the fore-mentioned Sham (GIII) and seocnd here in an overnight stakes, as well. Just missed at HOL facing graded horses as well, so this could be the day for him to break out.
8 Big Notion killed, winning by eight to break maiden, but wasn't nearly as impressive when running in the big leagues, when second v. Alw horses. The barn is sharp with a young horse, so maybe he shows his real ability today.
9 Lafin Match closed out '10 with a thud when sixth in the LEB Futurity at KEE. Won the Colin and just missed in the Sapling (GIII), so he can run - can they get him back today? I thik so...
10 Super Six won both races facing ON-bred horses, and we know that can be some salty racing, with those inflated purses. I like the way he's been galloping and he may be tough in this one.
