The CA Derby will makes it seventh appearance here at HRP. The fastest time of a horse raced in this race is by Tinian out of the Simmer Down Stable with a time of 1:43.33. The current track record is 1:41.62 by Little Slick out of the Australia Wide on May 26, 2008. Lets take a look at the 2011 entries:

1 Alien Drive is owned by Barcelona Farms. Three back he raced in the DMR Futurity Grade I. He came from off the pace to get up to be second at seven furlongs. Two back he was in the BC Juvenile Grade I at todays business. In that race he was able to battle a tough field to finish third. Recently picked up a win at the distance in the Display Stakes. Looks like he will fit well here.

2 Kipper is owned by Mb Stables. Three back Kipper struggled against open Stakes company to finish fifth at todays distance. From there he was able to pick up two wins against open company in Allowance company. Looks like he could struggle here as he has not be able to win stakes company.

3 Speedway is owned by Bayou Star Farm. Recently he struggled against Allownace company, prior to that he was in the OH Freshman, where he was able to serve up a win. Three back he picked up his Maiden win. It looks like he likes the distance, but I do not think his resume speaks volume and I think he could struggle against this field.

4 Demon Speeding is owned by Strangefate Stables. This owner is 0 for 58 starts for 2011 and will make his 59 start in this race with Demon Speeding. Demon Speeding was able to win his Maiden at second asking at Tampa Bay Downs at seven furlongs on the dirt. Demon Speeding is a very long shot here, and I am looking elsewhere.

5 Sabers Edge by Paradise Stables. Recently has been racing against California Breds. At seven furlongs he took on Allowance company where he was able to pick up a win. His only other win to date is his Maiden win. Another entry that looks like he will struggle in here.

6 Asleep At The Wheel is owned by Running Bear. Won his Maiden in first asking. From there would be sent to race in two open Stakes company. He was able to pick up a second and a third here. All the races have been at six furlongs, and today he will try and stretch out to a mile and a sixteenth. He likes to stay close to the pace, so he may fair well here.
