A full card of six races went at FL today and the action kicked off with two year old open allowance over a mile and seventy yards. Harcos from Eastern Equine was sent off a warm favourite after his two length maiden win at RET and did the job the hard way going off in front from the ace draw and continually battling off challengers to win by three quarters of a length on the line. The Boxer was long odds but has been racing consistently on this track in this type of race and again ran a good race just being out battled after stalking the winner throughout. Lasting Code ran on well and was only a length behind at the end but never looked like he was going to get to the first two.
A big field contested the two year old open maiden over five and a half furlongs and in a tight finish it was Muskoka Tree from Mo Mentum Farm that battled on the bravest to win by a neck. The autogen was gelded after his debut run and looked a little more determined minus parts of his anatomy today. Happy Spirit another recent gelding raced right on the speed but just could not find the depth needed to hold the winner. Third spot went to Bravery who was drawn out wide and got stuck in no mans land before staying on well enough and still remains a maiden who has never been out of the first three.
The fillies version of the above race also saw a full field take to the track and there was a very nice performance from a nasty gate from Ashley Brook. The Nynl Stables filly was taken back off the speed early and produced a nice turn of foot to storm through for a two length win. Spanish Verse had run a decent debut third and loomed up like a winner before being out kicked in the last furlong ending up a creditable second. Pinon Sunset led early at a fast pace but paid the price in the run for home fading to finish a four length third.
Next to go was a two year old fillies claimer over a mile and seventy yards and three of the four runners came from Nynl Stables however it was Shan Pony from C R K Stables that took the race. A heavily backed favourite on the strength of her runs in better company she sat on the leaders shoulder before pulling readily clear to win by three lengths. Nynl Stables put the claim on this one before the off so I suspect the trainer was expecting to fill the remaining three places. McNally made the running but had no answers to the winner when she upped the ante. Full Courtney was in a different state, fourteen lengths back in third.
The next race was a five and a half furlong open allowance for threes and up. Hes No Pie Eater from Evesham Allstars has been a consistent sort in this grade and made all from a difficult draw to make it four from nine. This three year old has never stopped improving since finally breaking his maiden after five attempts back in May and looks like he will make a very nice four year old. He battled on bravely to beat I Wanna Be Sedated by half a length. The runner up did well and also seems to be maturing nicely even after sixteen runs. Third place was Dakota Rain who did much better than in his last race but just seems to lack the turn of foot needed in these type of events.
The last event of the day was a fillies and mares allowance over six furlongs and only attracted the four entries. Bite My Dust was a warm favourite and made all for a very easy three length win. This was win number fifteen for the season and twenty five overall for trainer G and G Stable who will be happy that his $20 claim has at last shown him the ability he was hoping for. Good Mary was in the stalk throughout and got to within a length at one point but the winner readily pulled away from her in the stretch. Breathtaking was five lengths back in third and never really looked a danger.
