Wild General the second choice in the small field of six fillies was the eventful winner of this years running of the Silverbulletday Stakes. The bay filly by General Assembly made it four in a row and kick started her sophomore campaign in fine style.
The field got off to an even start but Wild General quickly turned the race into a catch me if u can game as she pounced to an easy two length lead within the first furlong or so, Numero Ena followed right behind and long shot She Will raced in third with the rail running Mars Baby. The early trailers were Dynanamite Punch and Anna Va In Tennessee.
As they raced along the back stretch the leader was still Wild General and she now led by almost three lengths in front on a munched up group of fillies waiting for a chance to make a move on her. Leading that pack was the long shot She Will with the favorite Numero Ena to her outside and Mars Baby still moving on the rail, a further three lengths back and trailing were Dynamite Punch and Anna Va In Tennessee who seemed comfortably placed at the back. As they approached the half Numero Ena tried to break free from the pack to challenge the leader but She Will went with her. Anna Va In Tennessee swung wide on the turn and made a move at the leaders leaving Dynamite Punch at the back.
In no time Numero Ena and She Will ran up alongside Wild General who was cruising on the lead with Mars Baby wilting under the pressure and could not keep up, Anna Va In Tennessee slowly made gains and she was not running with Mars Baby as a team and still plodding at the back was Dynamite Punch.
At the top of the stretch Wild General switched gears and continued to hold off her rivals as Numero Ena tried relentlessly to get by her. She Will raced consistently too and kept her rivals close by as she was running the race of her life. Wild General kept pedaling with every push but She Will was not having that at all, She Will changed her lead in mid-stretch and found she was gaining on the leader but not fast enough because they only had a sixteenth left to run so it was now or next time for her. The wire quickly approached and She Will still trying to get by Wild General but Wild General still had something left in the tank and as they both battled with each other for the win it was down to a photo finish.
After a long deliberation in the stewards room Wild General Was announced the winner by a nose over long shot and vastly improving She Will, favorite Numero Ena was third followed by Anna Va In Tennessee then Dynamite Punch passed a fading Mars Baby for fifth and sixed respectfully.
