Jamaican Me Mad Dazzles in CC Jewel

**Correction: When writing the preview to the CC Jewel, I incorrectly listed

Riggins Racing as the trainer of Jamaican Me Mad, instead of his correct

trainer Dynark Stables. I think I saw that Riggins was the breeder, and then

accidentally listed him as trainer. After a two week vacation, apparently my

brain turned to mush! My deepest apologies to Dynark for the error!

The CC Jewel Saturday at the Fair Grounds turned out to be a battle of

wills between stablemates Jamaican Me Mad, and Crazy Gnarls, both

trained by Dynark Stables. Together the horses entertained the crowd in

the most thrilling race on Saturday's Fair Ground card, running with just a

neck separating the two for much of the race.

In the end, Jamaican Me Mad was able to stay in front for entire trip, to

win the $150.000 race in gate to wire fashion. He finished the 1 1/8 race

over the fast Fair Grounds dirt in a stakes record setting time of 1:47.92,

one length in front of stablemate Crazy Gnarls, who refused to give up,

fighting hard until the very end.

Jamaican Me Mad, trained by Dynark Stables, is a four-year-old gelding

by HRP-Jamaico. He earned $90.000 for his win in the CC Jewel, giving

him career earnings of $224.850, and a race record of 25-7-5-5.

Crazy Gnarls, also trained by Dynark Stables was 2nd earning $30.000,

while Continuum finished 3rd taking home $24.000 for trainer, Unreal

Racing.

How the race was run:

7   Jamaican Me Mad: Won by one length. Broke sharply and

was taken out to the front, where he led early by a neck over

the 5 horse. After the 1/2 mile pole, stablemate Crazy Gnarls

had pulled into 2nd, just a neck behind him, and after a fierce

duel Jamaican Me Mad was able to shake loose, getting one

length in front at the wire for the win.

-Ran a wonderful race in the CC Jewel. Was able to keep the

lead the entire 1 1/8 race, winning in stakes record setting

time. It looks like Jamaican Me Mad may just now be hitting

his best stride, so definitely keep an eye on him in the future.

1   Crazy Gnarls: Finished in 2nd, one length behind the winner.

Broke well and stayed on the rail, running in 3rd early, 3/4 of

a length from the leader, stablemate Jamaican Me Mad. Near

the 1/2 mile pole, Crazy Gnarls passed the 5 horse, to run in

2nd, just a neck behind the leader, and the two dueled for the

lead. Around the one mile mark, Crazy Gnarls began to slow

just a bit, falling one length back to finish 2nd.

-Ran a great race here, against his stablemate. Crazy Gnarls

fought tooth and hoof and was just beaten, after a tremendous

effort. Distance may have been just a little long, but be sure to

watch for this talented horse in his upcoming races.

5   Continuum: Finished in 3rd, three lengths from the winner.

After the break, was sent towards the front, where he ran in

2nd, just a neck behind the leader. Before the 3/4 mile mark,

was passed by the 1 horse, and ran 3rd, 3/4 of a length back.

Shortly after the 3/4 mile pole he began to tire, fading to three

lengths back, where he finished 3rd at the wire.

-Ran well early, and it looked like the distance was just longer

than Continuum wants to run. It looks like right around a mile

is his best distance, and likely we will see him shorten up in

     his next start.

4   All Is Liu: Finished 4th, five lengths from the winner. After the

break, settled back in 5th, three lengths off the leader. Just

before the 3/4 mark, passed the 6 horse to take 4th place,

still three lengths back. Around the mile mark, began to slow

and faded two lengths back, finishing 4th, five lengths behind

     the winner.

-Ran well in mid-pack early, and looked like he was going to

make a big move, but seemed to flatten out. Think we may

see All Is Liu head back to the turf, where he ran well to be

2nd in a recent stakes race.

6   Lepus: Finished in 5th, five lengths back. Ran in 4th early, a

length off the lead. By the 1/2 mile pole, had lost a spot to be

5th as the 1 horse passed him, and he dropped to three lengths

behind the leader. Just before the one mile mark, he remained

in 5th, but tired, and dropped back to five lengths from the lead,

where he finished at the wire.

-Ran well early, but eventually just couldn't keep pace with the

front runners and got tired. Just doesn't look like he is quite

ready for stakes races yet, but may be with a little bit more

     experience.

2   Hollywood Luvvy: Finished 6th, nine lengths behind the winner.

After the break, dropped back to trail the field, running 7th, seven

lengths off the lead. At the 3/4 mile, remained in 7th, but gained

some ground to be five lengths back, and was able to pass the

tiring 3 horse to take over 6th place, but immediately tired badly

fading all the way to nine lengths back, to finish 6th.

-Don't think Hollywood Luvvy is up for stakes level competition at

this point. Has now finished 5th or worse in his last five starts, so

we may see him take a break and regroup before his next start.

3   Mardelatranquilidad: Finished 7th, ten lengths back. Ran 6th

early, four lengths from the leader, and just before the 3/4 mile

pole had dropped to be five lengths back, and shortly after was

tired, losing ground as he was passed by the 2 horse, to run in

7th. At the mile pole he had faded to ten lengths from the front

and looked like he was about to make a move as the winner hit

     the wire.

-Raced well on dirt early in his career, but after not racing on dirt

in over a year, it looks as though Mardelatranquilidad has decided

he prefers the turf. That is the only reason I can think of for the

uncharacteristic race her ran here. Expect we will see him make

a switch back to the grass for his next race.
