Salt Lake City Looks Strong in Young Memorial Futurity

A field of eight two-year-old colts and geldings will nervously enter the starting gate at Evangeline Downs on Saturday for the Young Memorial Futurity Colt division going five furlongs. The $100.000 state bred stake has attracted an assortment of talent ranging from maidens to strong upper level winners but one that stands out above the rest would be Salt Lake City from Sarah Stables.

This young colt broke his maiden at Louisiana Downs late last month by four lengths and missing the track record by .04 seconds. His works were strong going into that race and he appears as though he has improved since getting his win.

The rest of the field is as follows:

1   Best Brew

This Bayou Star Farms colt broke his maiden on a sloppy track at Louisiana Downs in a state bred restricted race back in May by just a half a length. His works do appear to be improving since that win including a black letter work here at EVD last month going the six furlongs in 1:13.2.

2   Triple Honor

This Aml Racing colt broke his maiden at Santa Anita back in mid April and this will be his first start back since winning the maiden two furlong race. His works do not appear to be as strong as some of the others in here so he could have a tough time after such a long layoff beating the competition he will be facing on Saturday.

3   Salt Lake City

While he just raced over two weeks ago, this Sarah Stables colt looks much the best. His works are quite solid and his win was very impressive. He is the one to beat.

4   Kobuk Country

This will be this colts first start since being purchased in auction last month for $2.020 by Barking Stables. He looks to be in a bit over his head in here though.

5   Montpelier

Another Sarah Stables entry, this colt also works very strong and had an impressive maiden victory here at EVD last month. He will definitely be competitive in here and is adding blinkers for this performance.

6   Sexy Letters

Double J Stables is taking a jump from a low level maiden win to state bred stakes company with his colt. While the winning time was on par with many of the others in here, his works are just not as good so he might have a tough time on Saturday.

7   Quitcellent

The lone maiden in the race is coming from the stable of Noblepark. This colt was posting some decent pre race works and finished second in his maiden start at Louisiana Downs back in May. He has no track works since that start but obviously Noblepark feels his is ready to face tougher competition. It is hard to say if he is right or not.

8   Silver Buckaroo

This will be this colts first start since being purchased in the auction for $8.010 by new connections Bearback Stables. His maiden win was at River Downs back in May in a less than impressive time. Unfortunately this colt has never hit a fast track so his times are subpar and his works are not as good as the others in here. He is a long shot.

Alberta Rose Picks:

3/5/1/7
