Jimmy Quills Wires LeBlanc Memorial

Five went to post in Saturday's LeBlanc Memorial, and the race was run in a procession-like fashion, as the runners never changed position from start to finish. This was good news for JIMMY QUILLS (Dew22), who improved her lifetime record to four wins in five starts with her five-length score here.

Breaking sharply from the 2-hole, the four year old daughter of HRP-Arctic Explorer and HRP-Day Line was sent straight to the front. She led by a length in midstretch, but quickened away with ease in the final three-sixteenths, stretching her margin to five lengths under the wire. She stopped the timer in 1:04.05 for the 5 1/2-furlong distance, and pushed her lifetime earnings to $133.980.

As for the rest of the field, AMPED broke well as well, but chased the eventual winner turning for home. She could not challenge that one in the lane, and was the best of the rest. MORGANS TREASURE (Icegator stables) was sent off the 6/5 favorite, but split the field in third throughout. BORN COUNTRY (Sarah Stables) and RUFFIAN (Mchenry Racing) sat well off the honest early fractions (:22 2/5 opening quarter), but were unable to rally.

Congratulations to Dew22 and Jimmy Quills on winning the 2009 LeBlanc Memorial!
