1 EMD         EMD Derby
$100.000 Added ($107.500)   3yo   1 1/8m  Dirt

The one thing Hoosac Valley had never done was get to the front early.  Well, with the biggest pay-day of his career on the line, he did just that - after breaking in a bit of a tangle, he rushed up to take over and held on to win the EMD Derby by a neck, getting the mile and an eighth in 1:49.91.

The field of nine loaded well and quickest away from the gate was Wrigley from the outside.  There were five across the track behind him, including Hard Like A Rock, Hokeykokey Dance, Good Beat, Look Now and Seaburial.  Hoosac Valley got off a step slowly and trailed, two lengths from the leader.

As they made their was around the clubhouse turn and onto the back-side, Hoosac Valley collected himself and motored up to take a half-length lead over Hard Like A Rock.  It was another length back to Hokeykokey Dance along the rail, Good Beat to his outside and Look Now just outside of that one.  It was another length back to the trailing pair, Seaburial and a quickly used Wrigley.

Down the back-side, through the far turn and to the top of the lane, Hoosac Valley was now a length in front of Look Now from the outside.  Hard Like A Rock was continuing on well, with Hokeykokey Dance still saving ground along the rail, and Good Beat just off of his flank.  There was a large gap back to the trailers, Seaburial and Wrigley.

Inside the last 150-yards and to the wire, Hoosac Valley had the lead, but Look Now was closing down with every stride, and they hit the wire in a very tight finish.  The photograph showed Hoosac Valley by a head, Look Now a game second and Hard Like A Rock three lengths back in third.  Hokeykokey Dance was fourth, just in front of Good Beat, with Seaburial in sixth and Wrigley rounding out the field of seven.

Hoosac Valley is a 3yo colt, bred (AG) by Invicta Group Llc in CA.  This was his third victory from eleven starts, and his first stakes score.  His earnings now stand at $107.640.

RECAP   Hoosac Valley broke in a tangle, rushed up to lead after a furlong, turned away all challenges and just lasted to the wire. Look Now was away well, pressed the pace throughout and just missed in a game effort. Hard Like A Rock pressed the pace and ran evenly. Hokeykokey Dance, rail trip, no factor. Good Beat was close to the early pace, no factor. Seaburial was outrun. Wrigley flashed early speed, stopped.
