Continuing to show her improvement since purchased Miss Rainbow turned in a scintillating performance to earn her first Graded Stakes in the $100.000 Gardenia Stakes GIII at Ellis Park at a mile on the dirt for Fillies and Mares Three-year-olds and upwards on August 13.
Speedy Magic Brew got to a good start and shot out the gat to the lead followed by Negdogs Busanda on the rail then it was three lengths back to
Avery
Island and at the back Miss Rainbow and House Of Wax running as a team.
Magic Brew continued to lead running up the back stretch by almost two lengths in front of Negdogs Busanda then
Avery
Island with Miss Rainbow getting into her stride and aimed for the leaders as House Of Wax was left at the back.
Only a half left to go and Miss Rainbow continued her charge for the lead as she joined
Avery
Island as they inched closer to Negdogs Busanda who was holding down the runner up spot. House Of Wax began to run at the leaders as they entered the far turn before the stretch run, Magic Brew maintained a firm lead with just a little over a quarter to go.
Heading to the top of the stretch and now less than two lengths behind front running Magic Brew, Miss Rainbow and House Of Wax swung four or five wide as they turned into the lane making it four horses bunched across the track. Just like a jet train Miss Rainbow shot out from the pack of horses and found herself eyeballing long time leader Magic Brew as the two older fillies made a race of their own on the lead. However, that challenge was quickly put to rest as Miss Rainbow turned it into a solo deal and disposed of Magic Brew now three lengths in second.
Miss Rainbow won by five lengths setting a new track record in the process running the mile in a speedy 1:35:63 just a shade faster than the 1:35:68 that Ego Boost produced on July 31, 2004. Magic Brew held on to second and it was a close finish for third but House Of Wax got to the wire a blink of an eye ahead of
Avery
Island and Negdogs Busanda was fifth and last.
