Five Fillies will face off in the $100.000 Gardenia Stakes GII at Ellis Park on August 13 on the dirt.
Negdogs Busanda has been competing in stakes races ever since she was a two-year-old and she still is as a three-year-old but has never won any of the stakes races. She can be compared to a bridesmaid and not a bride as she is always in the money ever since the season started. She was surprisingly bought for $100.000 at the spring auction and a noticeable change can be seen as she looks stronger with her two starts since the purchase. On the other hand, House Of Wax, the other three-year-old in the race is a Graded Stakes winner as she shared a win in the Grade II Fantasy at
Oaklawn
Park and a won the Corte Madre as a two-year-old. She is the only horse in the field that has not been sold as she continues to highlight above average works at exercise in the mornings. House Of Wax finished off the board in her two starts at the Grade I level and will be taking a step down to a class where she is more at home and possibly earn her second Graded Stakes.
On the older Fillies side, none has ever won a Graded Stakes race but they will try to get it right over their younger more vibrant foes. If any should step up to the plate and represent for the older females in the race is definitely has to be Miss Rainbow. Recently purchased by Barcelona Farms for a whopping $301.000 in the summer auction, Miss Rainbow produced a wining run in the Northern Fling for state bred females foaled in Pennsylvania. She showed why she was worth so much money and
Barcelona sends her out knowing that she has the potential and the ability to be an "A" class runner
Magic Brew and
Avery
Island are Graded Stakes placed but Magic Brew has already won a stakes race. Magic Brew a four-year-old filly by Home Brew only made three starts this season but all in Graded Stakes company but has never finished less than third and will make it hard for the other fillies as she has the class to make a winning run.
Avery
Island however, is making her second Graded Stakes appearance after finishing runner up to the classy Fiore in the GII Santa Maria Stakes.
Avery
Island is also making her first start for new owner/trainer Mwn Racing since being bought for $2000.000. In the mornings she has been throwing down really good work times as she showcases her depth as a sprinter or a stayer and will fight to the finish.
