11 ELP ELP BC Turf
$100.000 3yo&Up F&M 1 1/16m Turf
Saturday's ELP BC Turf only had four entrants, but they all seemed to have a shot at winning this one, but on this day Power Racing's Icicles was not to be denied, turning back every challenge and going under the wire clear by a length, getting the mile and a sixteenth in 1:42.84 and taking the winner's share of the $100.000 purse.
The quartet loaded without issue and as the gates sprung open, Kapahani jumped out on top by a half length, with Valkyries Cry along the rail, Icicles from the far outside and Jiggs Dinner, just a half length separating the field.
By the stands the first time and now midway on the clubhouse turn, the battle was on and Icicles moved up from the far outside to stick her head in front. Kapahani was right there, with Jiggs Dinner between that pair, then Valkyries Cry along the hedge.
Down the backstretch at to the far turn, there were three and a half furlongs to run and Icicles continued to lead by a length. Jiggs Dinner was not applying presure to the leader, then a half length to Valkyries Cry, continuing to scrape the paint, and Kapahani was now the trailer, two and a half lengths from front to back.
Around the turn and to the top of the lane, they went by the three sixteenths pole and things were getting interesting. Icicles was now being stared-down by Jiggs Dinner, and Valkyries Cry moved up to be right in the thick of things - the three of them across the track. Kapahani had seen enough of this one, and the battle to the wire was on!
Now inside the final 150-yards and to the wire, Icicles had turned back the challenge and pulled away late to take the win, a length in front of Jiggs Dancer. Valkyries Cry could find no more and was third, two more back, with Kapahani closing out the field.
Icicles is a 4yo bay filly by HRP-Nashua - HRP-Miss France, by HRP-Jock, and she was bred in PA by her owner, Power Racing. This was her fourth win from seven starts, taking her earnings to $219.760. Now with two consecutive stakes wins, this filly will be one to watch.

RECAP Icicles was away alertly, moved up on the first turn to take the lead while four wide, stretch long battle, pulled away late. Jiggs Dancer showed speed throughout, brief lead stretch, out-finished. Valkyries Cry up close throughout, weary in the late stages. Kapahani broke sharply, showed good speed for five furlongs, faded.
