Pacific Classic - Grade I [BC]
8/25/2013 19:20 8/21/2013 3:00 DMR Race #8 1 1/4m Dirt Graded Stake
1 Iroquois River, trained by Canadian Racing
Won the Suburban Handicap off a low weight but that is probably the only high light in this ones thirteen race career and I am struggling to give him a winning chance for this huge prize. Staying on well when third in a DMR open allowance last time probably sums up his chances today.
2 Collision Bend, trained by Alberta Rose Stables
A multiple stakes winner this one sneaks under the radar a little for this especially as his fats finishing half length second to Jesse James in The HOL Gold Cup last time puts him right into this race. He has hit the line well throughout his career so I do not see todays trip will be a big problem so I am more nervous about his ordinary works since that last run which are screaming decline. Many five year olds have gone from hero to zero in one run and I hope that wont be the case with this horse today because on paper he has a big chance.
3 Mister Major, trained by Mb Stables
A previous owner of this horse I am well aware that he has shown the ability on the gallops at home to be competitive today but his race track performances have always been a little disappointing and I have seen nothing to suggest that that has changed.
4 Latest Mach, trained by Sanny Village
A top two year old and close to one of the best three year olds he is thrown in the deep end today and will have one last throw of the dice against the top flight. Running on strongly in both the KYD and Preakness after a strong win in the LA Derby suggest this trip wont be a problem it is more his last performance that sends out some warning bells. He did nothing in The Haskel back in July although may have needed that run after a bit of a lay off but that average performance was enough to pass him over today even though I do it with some trepidation.
5 Vroom Vroom, trained by Mb Stables
Just a good sort he has never broken through into stakes class and I see no reason why he will do that today. A good winner of an open allowance at SAR last time he may be one of the few that is on song though and he could well sneak some of this big purse money if getting a good trip.
6 Somewhat Likely, trained by Wolfs Den
Claimed from a ten dollar claimer at the free track just two months ago if this one wins I will be hanging up my hat and leaving home.
7 Never Happier, trained by Blushing Meadows
Another who would have no place in this race in real life he comes here off a strong win last time out but will also have me packing my bags should he overpower the best on show in this race.
8 Jesse James, trained by Mb Stables
Has won two from two since being bought for six hundred dollars back in April I cannot see a good reason why this one wont be first or second today. Finishing strongly to win both the Metropolitan Handicap and the HOL Gold Cup I see no reason why he wont continue his unbeaten run for his new owner and take his career earnings over the three thousand dollar mark.
There are three runners that stand out here with most of the field looking to be more at home on the undercard. For me it is a straight fight between Jesse James and Collision Bend with third place maybe going to the three year old Latest Mach.
