RACE 11 CT CT Classic (GIII)
$1,000.000 4yo&Up 1 1/8m Dirt
Costy's been gone for years now, $1600 claimers and Louie's horse van when you pulled in the parking lot... days gone by. But as time change, things can get better and we have a $1,000.000 purse up for grabs and a field to match for the 2011 CT Classic (GIII). There's a joke around here... the only thing that beats Madhouse is the jockey, and most of the time, he doesn't have to touch him! Until someone beats him, he's the top choice... the win streak is at seven, he pocketed $4,960.000 last season... what more do you want to know. At even weights, you can't bet against him.
His seven foes include last years almost-TC winner, Five Fives, and the filly that broke that party up, Mrs Bombastic. She brings a stable mate in turf specialist Charming Behrens. There's close to $20mil in earnings from this group... a staggering number. It's going to be a good night at CT!
Here's the Field -
1 Hermit Cajun Stables Chavez J F 123 10/1
Cajun wanders out of LA with this one. He's made a good living beating up on LA-bred stakes company and open Alw foes. They go after the big boys, and with that 3-race win streak, you certainly have to give him a look-see.
2 Charming Behrens Ken Allan Husbands P 123 9/5
A finalist for the 2010 Turf Male, he's two for two this season with both of those wins comming on the sod. Interesting place to try the main track, but looking at that GP work, he's ready to go on any surface.
3 Five Fives CC Farm Dunkelberger T L 123 5/2
The near-winner of the TC has found older horses to be a whole new world. Tiring sixth in the Classic, came back to win nicely at SA but did a belly-flop at .60/1 in the Donn (GI) at GP in his most recent. Steady works over the track getting ready for today.
4 Pip Boy Dynark Stables Court J K 123 5/1
Fourth on SSM Day after changing hands, but returned in fine fashion to win at OP facing graded foes. He's been working at OP as well and I really would have liked to see a local gallop, but maybe it's over-rated.
5 Mrs Bombastic Ken Allan Ramirez E 118 7/2
The "Queen" kicked off 2011 with a victory on SSM Day, but has had a time of it since... well, if you call a second and a third a "time of it". For this big filly, it is... she used to win at will, but will she win this? Tough to like her here.
6 Madhouse Australia Wide Sutherland C 123 1/1
In a word, AWESOME! He's all race horse and hasn't been beaten since Jan of '10 when he missed by a nose. Six for seven last year, won the SSM Classic for fun and he only comes out to play when the big bucks are on the line.
7 Larry Lehew First Flight Stable Bravo J 123 15/1
Failed as the 7/2 luke-warm favorite at FG in the Mineshaft (GIII) after a string of solid finishes v. very good company. Switch back in the saddle to Bravo, who was up for his only graded win. He's named after a local CT owner, so maybe they are looking for some mojo here.
8 Edward III Meat Jacinto J 123 9/1
Closed like a freight train to win the Mineshaft (GIII) and this is the kind of horse that can get on a streak. Can the speed set him up for a big run down the lane? He may come at a price, if you like him.
