On Saturday November 12, 2011
A day for State Breds, and another race that came down to the wire, with a photo to determine the winner. A field of four entries for this race, and with owner Rockitpad sending out a pair. Runners
Caribbean Coconut and Round Table. A day of excitement so lets now take a look how it went down today here at Calder.
Caribbean Coconut - Ridden by Paco Lopez. Breaking from post two was able to get out and battle up front with Dynark Stables Barbaro Quest. The two hit the quarter in :22 and one with the half going :45 and one. Caribbean Coconut and Barbaro Quest were noses apart, as they hit the far turn. In to the stretch run jockey Paco Lopez aboard Caribbean Coconut went to work, as did Elvis Trujillo on Barbaro Quest. Sitting just behind the two was Long Time, and jockey Daniel Centeno where he had shook him up, and he responded coming on to hit the wire with the top two. The photo returned, as it was jockey Paco Lopez and Caribbean Coconut that were the winners of the Dudley Sprint. Going the 6 furlongs in 1:09.90 and taking home top prize money of $75.000 for owner and breeder Rockitpad.
Long Time - Ridden by Daniel Centeno. The post time favorite in this race sat a perfect trip for this one, and came up with a just miss in the Dudley Sprint. Getting away fourth and a length from the leader, as it was that way on the backstretch and into the turn. Jockey Daniel Centeno had shaken him up, and he responded by catching Barbaro Quest and just missed nailing Caribbean Coconut at the wire. He went out for owner Maverick Racing, and the owner takes home $25.000 for their efforts in this one.
Barbaro Quest - Ridden by Elvis Trujillo. Came out and snatched the lead when the doors opened in this one. Taking them to the quarter pole he was a neck in front of Caribbean Coconut. Hitting the half mile pole it was the same way, as it was a nose advantage at this point. In to the stretch Elvis went to on the 5yo gelding, and was desperately looking to get to the wire. In the final furlong Caribbean Coconut had stuck a neck in front and Long Time was coming. They hit the line together and he got the short straw of the photo, as he finished third by a head. He went out for owner Dynark Stables, and collected $20.000 for there run on Saturday.
Round Table - Ridden by Fernando Jara. Was the second entry for owner and breeder Rockitpad. Getting away third and a length behind at the quarter pole. On the backstretch he was just three parts of a length behind Caribbean Coconut and Barbaro Quest. As he hit the top of the stretch jockey Fernando Jara asked him for run, but he was out run by the top two and he watched Long Time go bye him. He finished fourth and was just two lengths behind the winner. He grabs a paycheck for owner Rockitpad taking home $5.000.
Until next time this is Iwin signing off!
