CC Emerald
7/24/2010 CBY Race #5 1 1/16m Turf Stake Purse $115.000 (includes $15.00 added stakes) For Three Year Olds And Upward
A field of ten is ready to take the track for the seventh running of the CC Emerald at CBY. This turf route stakes is open to any horse that started for a claiming price of $25.00 or less since 7/24/2009. First won in 2004 by Chase The Ace, the race record was set last year by Span Bala Band in 1:41.46.
The entries this year range from well bred types to autogens but all have two things in common; they rose from the claiming ranks and many are seeking their first black type win.
This race as it does nearly every year, often has a surprise or two for the fans and handicappers and this year should prove no different. Time now to get a closer look at the field:
1 American Venture Simmer Down Stable Bell D C 124 This four year old gelded son of Joint Venture was recently claimed for $22.500. Over the past year and one half, he was a steady performer on the allowance circuit who garnered one ungraded stakes win on the dirt last year. He was third in his last three races and his speed figures have declined since hitting a triple digit earlier this year. Nearly always in the money with a career record of 19-7-4-0-5 and $222.250 in earnings, he should fit well with this bunch. However, his soundness may be suspect due to conformation flaws and the declining speed figures could reflect this as well as his last 5f turf work of 1:01.
2 Seville Dynark Stables Martin E M Jr 122 This tall, well built, five year old gray autogen horse was bought at auction earlier this spring for $5.020. He immediately repaid his new connections with a string of three wins in upper allowances/optionals, two in triple digit lifetime high speed figures. A deep closer, he was off the board in his last after being forced wide round both turns. He likes the long sod wet or dry and has decent preps. If he gets a clean trip here, he should figure.
3 Asylum Cat Larkhill Stables Anderson M A 122 This gelded four year old son of Tabasco Cat was bought at auction last December for $7.010. He won four of his last five races all on the long sod, with increasing speed figures. The tall bay gelding has a classic routing build and looks to be maturing at just the right time. Another deep closer, look for him to be rolling late and to give an honest effort here.
4 Think Fast Phantom Stables Shepherd D R 117 This three year old son of Spot The Dog was claimed recently off a perfect four for four record in lower allowances and claimers. However he was outrun in his last effort against some weaker than these. On the plus side he is young yet and may have something to show on his first sod run. As the only sophomore in the field, he will carry low weight of 117.
5 The Longest Tard Aml Racing Arterburn B 122 This son of Foxhound was bought in the September 2009 auction for $11.920. A veteran of 18 races, he has just seven wins so far but to his credit has been racing against some tough graded company. He gets a break here with this field and has prepped nicely for this event. He loves the sod and looks well placed here.
6 Under Par Hambletonian Stable Butler D P 122 This gelded son of Sleepless Knight was claimed last winter for $35.000. He leads the field with a record of 24-7-7-2 with $205.310 in earnings. He has raced eight times already this year to score just two wins, but he ships in off a triple digit turf route win in his last and is another with nice preps. He has faced tougher before and could do well.
7 Dynamicist Hambletonian Stable Stevens S A 122 This son of Carius was claimed last month for $23.000 and makes his first start for his new connections here. He has had experience with tougher crowds and has won both on the dirt and sod before. His new barn should have him ready here.
8 Jumbo Operator Mojica Racing Eikleberry R 122 This five year old gelded autogen was claimed last winter for $22.500. He has yet to win a race since he broke his maiden one year ago, though he was racing in much rougher company and the drop in class here may do him some good. He has some nice grass works coming into this.
9 Turf Toe Raginbull Cardoso D 122 This four year old son of Canyon Rim was bred by the owner in West Virginia. He ships in off a claiming win at MNR and has picked up five wins in his thirteen starts, though some here look a bit tougher than he may be used to.
10 Yee Haw Mass Hysteria Martinez S B 122 This bay four year old son of MNRatNEBRASKAdotcom has a very consistent record of 15-5-6-2. He is a compact though long legged colt who has won or placed in his last ten races, all on the long sod. Everybody loves a winner and it is hard not to love him here with his record of turf routes. Outside draw may be a bummer, but do not count him out because of it.
