The Bold Ruler Handicap Grade III
For Three Year Olds And Upward
Going Seven Furlongs on the Dirt Course
For a purse of $100.000
at Belmont Park
on Saturday October 29, 2011

This is the seventh year that the The Bold Ruler Handicap Grade III has been ran at HRP.  In the past six years there has been one trainer that has won this race more than once.  Back in 2006 and 2007 Skyhigh Stables won this race with Froggy.  In 2009 this race went from being ran at six furlongs to seven furlongs.  Back in 2009 trainer Northern TraderStable saddled the winner Union Rucker who holds the race record at seven furlongs with a time of 1:21.77.  The track record stands at a time of 1:20.41 set by Soy Dinero and trainer Jerry Garcia Racing set on July 4, 2004.  The track has been sloppy there and it looks like there is a possibility of rain on Friday, which means the track could start to dry out.  On Saturday it is expected that Belmont Park will receive showers with a 70 percent chance, the trainers can thank the rain for another sloppy day at Belmont Park.  Lets look at the 2011 entries

1    Sqaw Perfect
Owned and Bred by Elki Stable
    Sire Mist Perfect Energy
    Dam Sqaw Rhythm
    Life Record 12-5-2-1

Sqaw Perfect comes into this race with a decent 2011 record three wins, two places, and a show finish out of nine starts on the year.  Three back he was up at Monmouth Park racing against $52.000 Allowance company Non winners of two races.  He sat in the middle of the pack, and by the half mile started to make a run for the money.  Set for the drive at the top of the stretch, he rallied on to get up for the win and scoring a 98 SRF Speed Figure.  Shipped up to Saratoga Race Course to run against New York Breds in the Morrisey.  Kent Desormeaux would take the ride.  He would get him out running second a length from the front.  Kent really did not do much for Sqaw Perfect as they close the gap by a half length to finish second over the good going on the main track.  Most recently he shipped over to TP where he face Grade III company in the KY Cup Sprint at six furlongs.  Jockey J Johnson would get the call, and really Sqaw Perfect was all but perfect here to never be a factor in this race and finished seventh.  He has only run at the distance once and that was on the sod.  He has a second place finish over the wet in one start.  All of his career wins come at a distance shorter than seven furlongs, so I think he will struggle as he goes against another crop of Grade III and tries to stretch out.

2    Lucylulu
Owned and Bred by Team Furey
    Sire HRP-Sunglow
    Dam HRP-Lindos Ojos
    Life Record 20-6-5-4

Lucylulu will enter into this race as the only filly in here.  Out of her six career wins three of them have come from the sod, and three from the main track.  Three back
she ran against open company Optional Claimers of $75.000 Non Winners of 4 with Ramon “Bring them Home” Dominguez aboard.  He sat her close to the pace, but she never really fired to get up to be fourth.  From there she stayed at Saratoga Race Course to race against New York Breds in the Union Ave.   Here Robby Albarado took the call.  He placed her right on the lead and she held the lead until there was one furlong to go in the six.  She faded to be third.  Back to the sod she went to race in a sprint against Open Allowance company for $52.000 for Non Winners of Three Lifetime.  Ramon Dominguez is back aboard to take the call.  He rallies her from off the pace to get up for the win.  Lucylulu is well fitted for this race as she has won at this distance and longer.  She broke her Maiden at this distance at Aqueduct.  She will carry the lowest weight allowed which is 118.  No advantage there for the filly.  I would like to see her SRF Speed Figures be a little higher, but still decent.  It is worth noting she has a third place finish over the wet in two starts.  There is a lot to like, but you could swing another direction.  Do not over look her!

3    Jammer Cat
Owned and Bred by Northern TraderStable
    Sire Wind Jammer
    Dam Here Kitty Kitty
    Life Record 10-4-0-1

Jammer Cat enters into this race with the least amount of races under his belt in this field.  Recently Jammer Cat has fallen on some bad luck as his last three outings he has finished fourth against some tough Graded Stakes Company.  Three back he ran here in the Westchester Handicap a Grade III event at a mile on the main track.  He was out in good fashion to be second by the six furlongs had the lead, and would give it up in the stretch to finish fourth.  From there he shipped out west to Hollywood Park to race in the Grade II Californian.  In this race he was on the lead, and then once again lost the lead into the stretch to go on and finish fourth.  His owner would shipped him back to Belmont to race in the Grade II The Kelso.  Once again in this race he had the lead, and would dump the lead in the stretch to finish fourth.  I think the trainer has realized that his horse can compete at these levels, but not at the distance.  He should do well here given the shorter distance.  His disadvantage comes as he has never raced over the wet, so this could be a factor going Saturday.  Looks like a diamond in the rough!

4    Another Major
    Owned by Chili King Stables
    Bred by Four Winds Racing
    Sire Generalmajor
    Dam Auld Brae
    Life Record 17-5-3-0

Another Major has been struggling since his Grade III win in the Jersey Shore back over the mud at six furlongs back on July 3, 2011.  Out of three starts over a wet track he has two wins, and a place.  Can you say we have a mudder on our hands?  I would say the answer is yes.  Another Major three back ran in the Crosby Stakes a Grade I event at Del Mar.  This race was on the main track going six furlongs. He broke from the rail and was shuffled back quickly, and never really rebounded to finish seventh.  From there he shipped over to Saratoga Race Course to run in the Grade I Kings Bishop.   This race was run at todays distance, he got out to be last of the field of eight.  In the stretch he made a late rally to get up to be sixth.  He shipped up to Woodbine to try a mile and an eighth on the dirt course in the ONT Derby.  Out last to try and rally in the stretch to be fifth.  I think the wet condition that is highly likely on Saturday, is a huge factor for him.  I think this will serve him some justice.  He makes a drop in class from the days of Kings Bishop, and we know he can win on the mud in Grade III company.  One to keep an eye on.

5    Mojo Madness
    Owned by Night Rider Stables
    Bred by Running Bear
    Sire Mojo Boy
    Dam Roxie
    Life Record 20-6-3-3

Mojo Madenss was claimed for $32.000 back in February of this year.  Since then he has made four starts for his new owner Night Rider Stables.  Lets take a look at his last three races.  Back in June he was up in Canada at Fort Erie in a $19.200 Allowance for Non Winners of 4 races Lifetime going six furlongs.  Out to be fifth but by the far turn took the commanding lead to go on to win.  From there he would ship over to Woodbine for his next two starts.  Two back he faced Ontario Breds in the Shepperton Stakes.  This race would be run at six and a half furlongs in the slop.  He broke well to be second, breathing down the pacesetters neck.  At the top of the stretch he went on to take the lead for the victory.  Then he came back at Woodbine to run in the seven furlongs Overskate Stakes for Ontario Breds.  He did not get out well and was shuffled back quickly and went on to not fair well to be fifth.  He is two for two in the wet with a win in the slop.  I think the off going is a plus for him.  This could be his upside.
