The Ticonderoga Handicap
For Fillies And Mares Three Year Olds And Upward for New York Breds
Going a Mile and a Sixteenth on the Turf Course
For a purse of $125.000
at Belmont Park
on Saturday October 22, 2011

This is the ninth year that the The Ticonderoga Handicap has been ran at HRP.  This race has always been run at a mile and an eighth, this will be the first year that the race will be run at a mile and a sixteenth.  The track record stands at a time of 1:38.83 set by Sarong and trainer Power Work set on October 15, 2011.  The track has been fast there and it looks like there is a small chance of rain over the next few days, which should not effect the track.  Lets look at the 2011 entries

1    Misty Eyes
    Owned by Night Rider Stables
    Bred by La Canada Racehorses
    Sire HRP-Tantieme
    Dam HRP-Lea Lark
    Life Record 11-5-2-1

Misty Eyes was Claimed on July 1, 2011 for $18.000.  Since then she has made two starts for her new owner.  She tried her luck at Saratoga Race Course in August at five and a half furlongs on the sod against $20.000 Claimers.  She did not get out well, and did not do well here to get up to be fifth.  She shipped down state to Belmont Park to race against $35.000 Claimers at todays distance.  She got out to be fourth, and rallied in the stretch to get up for the win.  Her last SRF Speed Figure was a 96, and she should rank well against others in here.

2    Mezzanisi
    Owned by Pocket Aces Racing
    Bred by Saratoga Stud
    Sire Treasure Hunt
    Dam Mjs Moonlight Girl
    Life Record 17-5-4-4

Mezzanisi was bought at the auction in December 13, 2009 for $27.210.  Three back she was up at Saratoga Race Course in The SAR Dew where she got out of the gate to be on top.  As the field turned into the far turn she gave up the lead to finish second.  From there she shipped to Belmont Park where she would make her next two starts against New York Breds.  Both races she ran in were Optional Claimers for Non Winners of Three and then Optional Claimers Non Winners of 4, both at todays distance.  Both of these races were like mirror images.  She got out to be second, and in the stretch she got up to win.  She looks ready for todays bunch of girls!

3    Belle Of Tristarc
    Owned by Ekli Stable
    Bred by Hearts Of Steel
    Sire Reign Of Darkness
    Dam Belle Fig
    Life Record  27-10-5-4

Belle Of Tristarc was purchased in December 13, 2009 for $41.000 at the auction.  Three back she raced at Arlington Park in an Allowance against open company at todays distnace.  She did not get out well as she was eighth, and she tried to rally in the stretch but would finish fourth.  From there she shipped over to Saratoga Race Course in the Grade II Ballston Handicap where she raced from well off the pace, but in the stretch she rallied to get up to be second.  She then shipped down to Belmont Park to race at a mile and eighth on the soft sod in The Hettinger for New York Breds.  She got out to be second by a neck, but it was soon after the opening half mile that she would go on to take the lead to win.  I think she should rate well here.

4    Futo Vatten
    Owned by Hambletonian Stable
    Bred by Pink Diamond Stables
    Sire Tollbooth Willie
Dam A And W Root Beer
    Life Record 23-11-5-1

Futo Vatten was purchased for $117.770 in the June 20, 2010 auction.  three back she ran at Saratoga Race Course in the De La Rose at a mile on the good InTurf.  She stayed away from the pace, and rallied in the stretch for the win.  She would then run at todays distance against New York Breds in the Yaddo.  She was out last in a field of four, and when they turned for home, there she was to get home first.  She then shipped out west to Del Mar to run in the Grade II Palomar Handicap at todays distance.    She did not fair well, and was not even really ever in it when she got out last and finished last beaten by 21 lengths.  She returns to face New York Breds, and very well ranks against this field.

5    Three Queens
    Owned by Running Farms
    Bred by Sanny Village
    Sire Three Broken Clocks
    Dam Quixotic Queen
    Life Record 24-7-7-6

Three Queens was sold on October 15, 2011 just seven days from when this race runs from the breeder to Rouge River Stables for $125.000.  That same day Rouge River Stables sells the horse for $138.000 to Running Farms.  Very interesting how that all happened on the same day!  Yet she has a new owner and she will make her debut this Saturday for her new owner Running Farms.  If you look three back she ran at this distance at Del Mar in the Osunitas Stakes where she started out to be fourth, and would rally to finish second.  Then she shipped to Saratoga Race Course to run in the Yaddo against New York Breds where she face Futo Vatten.  She had the lead throughout the majority of the race.  That was until Futo Vatten came flying down the stretch to beat her, she would go on to finish third.  Most recently she shipped down to Belmont Park to run in The Hettinger where she started out fifth, and got up to be second.  She was beat in this race by number 3 Belle Of Tristarc.  She should rank well here against others!
