The track came up fast today, and Need A Marlboro would go off as the post time favorite. Streamin Sound went out and took the early lead, but would give up the lead by the far turn for another to go on to win. Lets see how this all unfolded.
Commander McBragg sat way off the pace to be last of the five and spot the field six lengths at the opening quarter. Jockey Jose Lezcano just limped his way through these quarters as they went to the half to be seven lengths from the front. Now the field heads towards the far turn and Lezcano still has not made a move, but shortens the distance from seven lengths to just four. Lezcano reaches the top of the stretch and he swings him about three wide to be on the outside. It was like Lezcano pulled the rip cord, and Commander McBragg took command of the situation to go on to win by one for owner Calia Stable. He covered the one mile and a sixteenth turf in 1:39.82.
Need A Marlboro got out to press the pace in the early going from the start to be second by three quarters of a length. He went to the half in second, three quarters of a length from Streamin Sound the pacesetter. As the field goes into the far turn he gets up to be about a neck off of the pacesetter. In the stretch he was passed by Commander McBragg, but beat Streamin Sound in the stretch to finish second for owner Dynark Stables.
Streamin Sound was out to obtain the lead from the word go. He opened the first quarter in :23 and three fifths seconds. From there he took the field to the half in :47 and one fifths seconds. That means it was another quarter just like the first. He was off to continue with the lead to the three quarters of a mile in 1:10 and two fifths. He sped the pace up to be a :23 and one fifth second quarter. Into the stretch he faded to finish third for owner Team Furey.
Open Road Song was out to be in the middle of the pack third by one length. He went to half mile still third but now two lengths from the leader Streamin Sound. As he headed to the far turn he still was third at the three quarters by two lengths. By the top of the stretch he faded to finish fourth for owner Pocket Aces Racing.
Halos Disco did not get out well to start to be fourth by four lengths. By the top of the stretch he faded to be fifth for owner Tirstar Stables.
Until next time this is Iwin signing off!
