AQU 5         NY Stallion Series- Great White Way- ( Recap )

$100.000            For Colts & Geldings Two Years old, Foaled in NY                  6 Fur.                 Dirt

_________________________________________________________________________________

Though he was unable to break the Event Record for the Great White Way set in 2006 by Zippy Victory, Canadian Racing's Max Charmer ( 2.10 ) would battle like a true champion to the very end, getting up for the win in a photo finishing with Pocket Aces Racings Opicinas Puddle ( 4.65 ). The margin between the runners was a meer one one-hundredth of a second. Just like Do Not Enter who battled to the very end in the fillies Fifth Avenue event, both these juveniles carry the Eviction Notice bloodline, passed down from HRP-Stymie, which has Man Of War bloodstock on both sides of his pedigree.

As the gate bell rang and the horses broke cleanly, Opicinas Puddle would be quick to the rail, accompanied to his outside flank by Max Charmer. The two would run an almost identical race to the far turn as the fillies did in the earlier event, with the Pocket Aces Racings entry on top by a quarter of a length. The opening quarter going in 22.39.

Through the turn to the midway point, and Max Charmer had now pulled right up tight to Opicinas Puddle, both riders trying to keep adequate distance between horses so as not to cause an infraction. Two and a half lengths back of these duelling frontrunners was a wall of three, consisting of Paradise Stable's Old Magic ( 5.00 ) at the rail, Axeman's Red Rain ( 4.70 ) to the outside, and splitting runners was post time favorite Pan Farms Noble Meshod ( *1.90 ).

With the half mile in the books in a time of 45.58, patrons were starting to smack their racing forms in the palms of their hands, like riders taking to the whip, hoping in some strange way this will help their backed horse run even faster. Many more patrons moved closer to the fence to get a better look at how the race was unfolding, with Opicinas Puddle and Max Charmer still neck and neck down the lane, with Noble Meshod starting to close the gap.

After passing the eighth pole in a time of 57.74, Opicinas Puddle was still managing to hold on to the lead by a nose, but Max Charmer was starting to be a bit less charming, and as they hit the wire, the Canadian Racing chestnut would claim a visit to the winners enclosure. The victory would now bring his record to 5 ( 2-1-1 ) with career earnings of $125.420. All five of his starts have come here in the Empire State, and I wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt try the Runyon early next month to close out his season.

For runner-up Opicinas Puddle, missing by such a narrow margin is definitely heart breaking, but as he gains more strength with maturity, it will definitely help him have some staying power for late running efforts in the future. Having already seen action eight times in his juvenile career, it will be interesting to see if he will be sent to the farm for the remainder of the season, and start fresh next year.

Hoping that a late kick would do the trip down the lane, Noble Meshod came up just a half length short at the line and should be looking to go a bit longer before the end of the season. The Dania Beach at GP a week before Christmas might be an option his trainer may consider.

Rounding out the event were Old Magic , who was making up some minor ground with an opening along the rail for fourth and Red Rain finishing fifth, only two back.
