Righteous shows how good of a fighter he is as he fought off the challenge of fast closers to nab his fourth straight victory in the $100.000 Washington Futurity for two-year-olds at
Arlington
Park on September 10.
After a clean break the eight freshmen colts got off to a clean start with the heavy favorite shooting to the lead followed up closely by another early runner Sundance Kid. Tweetie Moonwalks and Don Felipe races closely behind as a team in between the two early goers. After the first quarter in 22 3/5 seconds
Twins
Territory raced up in striking position and was a length and a piece back in third as he had passed Tweetie Moonwalks and Don Felipe.
The runners raced past the shoot on to the back stretch and 99-1 chance
Twins
Territory was now challenging for the lead as he was just a head bob from Righteous and from being the leader of the race, Sundance Kid still raced steadily on the rail not far from the lead. As the field approached the far turn heading for home
Twins
Territory began to fade as the momentum increased and Righteous began to make his move. Sundance Kid rail running also began to move and caught up with the leader while Don Felipe three wide passed a fading
Twins
Territory.
Turning for home Sundance Kid and Righteous were neck and neck and they were soon to be joined by Don Felipe who was traveling smoothly heading into the stretch run. Sundance Kid fought hard on the rail but Righteous was game as he was liking the challenge and stayed on strong then shook clear of the rest and won by a marginal length, Don Felipe out finished Sundance Kid for second on the outside of horses as Tweetie Moonwalks slowly joined the challengers but was locked in behind horses and was fourth.
The rest of the field followed as Fruggle was fifth then followed Kortright, Osoto Gari and the ill faded Twins territory who faded to dead last.
