1 Laffin Hyena: Won by a nose. Stayed on the rail
and got a beautiful ground saving trip. He briefly led
early then fell into 3rd when the 6 horse took the lead
and he and the 2 horse exchanged running 2nd, several
times just before the 1/2 mile mark. Laffin Hyena got in
2nd place at the 3/4 pole, and then took the led from
the 6 horse just after the mile pole, and was able to
hold off the 2 horse and win by a nose on the wire.
-Laffin Hyena ran a great race here, saving ground and
running a really well timed race to take the lead just in
time. A really good horse, be sure to watch out for this
gelding in his future races.
2 Jamaican Bolt: Finished 2nd, just a nose behind the
winner. Ran in 3rd, almost the whole race, just off of
the 1 horse, and behind the leader. Traded 2nd place
back and forth with the 1horse before the 1/2 mile pole
then settled back in 3rd, 3/4 a length from the leader.
Just before the wire, he put in a big run getting up to
take 2nd, just missing the win by a nose.
-Ran a fantastic race Saturday, and he just missed the
win. Was charging hard at the end and looked like he
possibly could have even gone longer. One to watch
in the future as this three-year-old may be just now
peaking.
6 Diamond Cut: Finished 3rd, 1/2 a length behind the
winner. Was taken to the front right out of the gate
and led the race early by 1/2 a length. Went on to
lead the race all the way until the mile pole when
he began to tire slightly and was passed by the 1
horse, and then the 2 horse passed him just before
the wire, and Diamond Cut finished in 3rd.
-Ran well, just seemed to use up too much early by
leading the race. By the end he was beginning to
visibly tired, and did well to hang on for 3rd. Would
suspect we will see him cut back in distance a bit
for his next race as this was his 2nd race in a row
at 1 1/4 on turf, where he led the whole race before
tiring near the end to be passed.
4 Enigmatic: Finished 4th, 3/4 a length behind the
winner. Taken back and sent to the rail early, where
he trailed the field, running in 6th, three lengths from
the leader. Before the 1/2 mile pole, passed the 3
horse to take 5th, then right after the mile pole he
was able to take 4th, just before the wire, where he
finished, 3/4 a length from the winner.
-Ran well, looked like Enigmatic had a bit of a traffic
problem around the 3/4 mark. He looked full of run
and was pinned in a bit. Finished running strong to
get up for 4th at the wire. Had traffic not been an
issue, likely he would have taken 3rd, and maybe
even finished better. Watch for his next start-if he
gets a clean trip, he should run big off of this race.
5 Bold Pretender: Finished in 5th, two lengths back
from the winner. Was sent out fast after the break,
and ran in 3rd briefly, then 4th, 1 1/2 lengths behind
the leader. By the 1/2 mile pole he was 2 1/4 lengths
back and looked to be struggling a bit. Began to make
a move after the 3/4 pole, and was able to hold onto
4th place, until the mile pole, when he was passed
by the 4 horse, and he came up flat, unable to gain
ground on the front runners, and finished two back.
-Bold Pretender was taken back further from lead
than he has been in his last two races, both of
which were graded stakes, where he has finished
well. Last time out was a win that came at this
distance on turf, and prior to that he was 2nd in
another graded stakes. Think the distance he
had to make up was just too much. In his next
race he may have new jockey instructions, but
he's a good horse, and one to watch.
3 Coffee Black: Finished 6th, three lengths from
the winner. Briefly ran in 4th in the earliest part
of the race, before falling back to run 6th the rest
of the race, first three lengths from the lead, then
two lengths back. When the field began to make
their closing moves, Coffee Black, was simply not
able to gain any ground and at the wire finished
6th, three lengths behind.
-Ran well for this being his first graded stakes start,
but he just doesn't look ready for graded stakes at
this point in his career. He is very lightly raced, and
think we will see him drop back down in class for a
while to gain more experience, and he could be ready
to try graded stakes later in the year.
