LAPN Matron
2/4/2012 DED Race #4 5f Dirt Stake
Purse $100.00 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward Foaled In LA
DED kicks off a full day of statebred stakes racing this Saturday. Among the top races leading up to the LAPN Championship is the inaugural running of the LAPN Matron. This is a five-furlong dirt spring for fillies and mares four years old and up.
Highlighting the five entries is Hawaii Blossum from Riggins Racing. The graded stakes winning autogen returns to statebred racing with a field high record of 21-7-5-2 and $425.920 in earnings. She will face stakes winners Breaking Dawn and Brandy Punch, along with stakes placed fillies Little Lulu and Indigo.
Here is the field:
1 Indigo Running Bear Hernandez C J 123 This four-year-old daughter of En Zed was bred by the owner. She has just two wins in fourteen races, but finished in the money in nine. She ran a mile on turf to finish third in the Raspberry last fall. She finished fourth in two other stakes. A switch to dirt sprinting saw just miss in an optional last fall. She ran some nice early fractions on the lead and earned a career high 98 speed figure. She draws the rail here and if she can repeat that earlier effort, she should be in the mix.
2 Brandy Punch Chateau Gill Vazquez J L 125 This four-year-old daughter of Slash was bred by the owner. She won and placed in two stakes, but both were on sloppy tracks. She tried two more stakes but missed the board in both. She returns to racing this weekend off a three-month farm stay. That might leave her a little rusty, but she worked a pair of :57 and change bullets making her look likely here.
Hawaii Blossum Blaze Fish Stables Saenz D 125 This five-year-old autogen mare was developed by Riggins Racing. She was claimed once before being bought at auction on 9/18/2010 for $10.000. She had a fine season last year, with three stakes wins. Like #2 Brandy Punch, she turned in a sub :58 prep and looks a solid threat.
4 Little Lulu Salamanca Stable Melancon G 123 This four-year-old daughter of Gemini Thunderbolt was bred by the owner. She can win routing or sprinting, but her best stakes efforts came at longer distances. She placed in two state bred routes last year. She may not have enough early speed here to be competitive.
5 Hawaii Blossum Riggins Racing Simington D E 129 This four-year-old autogen filly was developed by the owner. A graded stakes winner with earnings over $400.000, she seemed to tire at the end of last year and lost her last two races. She returned to racing last month and finished fourth in a six-furlong allowance. She took the lead at the break and set some sharp fractions until tiring late. She shortens up here looking to capitalize on that early speed she showed. She carries high weight of 129, which could be a factor if forced wide. However, she got a boost from an outside break in her last and has enough speed to angle inside if that happens here.
