LAPN Starlet
2/4/2012 DED Race #5 7f Dirt Stake
Purse $125.00 For Three-Year-Old Fillies Foaled In LA
DED is anticipating a record turnout this weekend, for an all day series of state bred stakes racing on Saturday. One of the features is the inaugural running of the LAPN Starlet.
The seven-furlong dirt affair draws a talented field of five. Among the standouts is Terrible Swift Sword, a daughter of multiple graded stakes winner Sword Of God bred by owner Running Bear. Raced exclusively on the statebred circuit, she ships in off winning her last two races including her debut 2012 run here last month. Tops among her competitors are Predatory Lending and Inches, two fillies that look good at this distance and earned 91 and 92 speed figures in their last.
Here is the field:
1 Isla Marias Dk Racing Inc. Simington D E 121 This nice looking bay autogen filly took home a paycheck in all six of her career races so far. She finished second in four of these however, after being caught late while setting fast fractions early. She shortened to five furlongs in her last and won handily. This is likely her best distance, though she has enough speed to get up front and hang around long enough for paycheck. She runs longer here versus some seemingly more fit to get the distance. However, she is another year older and maturity may help her carry her speed longer in which case, she could prove a formidable opponent, especially with her rail draw.
2 Terrible Swift Sword Running Bear Melancon G 121 This daughter of Sword Of God was bred by the owner. Raced exclusively in state breds, She missed the board just one last year in a stakes race. She placed in another black type affair. She ships in off two wins at six and a half furlongs dirt. She seems a natural for seven furlongs and should do well here. Jockey Melancon rode her to victory twice before and gets the mount again.
3 Gaul Chili King Stables Hebert T J 121 This autogen filly was developed by Dk Racing Inc and sold on 7/27/2011 for $13.000 to her new connections. A lovely looking filly with top HRP bloodlines, she has yet to rise to the level of talent her build and blood suggest. She tried sprinting and routing on both surfaces. So far, she has two wins in eleven races, one being a maiden win last summer and the second a statebred allowance win on an off track. Both were at a mile or longer. Her connections seem to be struggling to find a proper niche for her. She missed the board at GP last month in a mile race and shortens here looking for better results.
4 Predatory Lending Maverick Racing Saenz D 121 This nicely bred daughter of Siberian Rhythm was bred by the owner. She broke her maiden in her fifth trip last fall at six and one half furlongs versus state breds. She ran off to win by six lengths in that one. She shipped to CRC to try seven furlongs and finished third with a career high 92 speed figure. Based on her last two, this distance should be ideal for her and she could prove tough to beat.
5 Inches Axeman Hernandez C J 121 This daughter of Tt Twinkletoes was bred by the owner. Last year she spent much of her time running the sod. where she won and placed twice versus state breds. She made her 2012 debut in a high-class claimer at SA last month and just missed the win by a nose while sprinting on the dirt. She looked tough in that one and earned a career high 91 speed figure. The only drawback one sees with her is a pedestrian 1:13 six-furlong dirt work on 1/21. However, works do not a race make and if she runs as she did in her last, she will be in the mix.
