                                          Breeders Cup Turf

For Three Year Olds and Upward

                                            Purse: 3,000.000

Welcome back to Churchill Downs where on Saturday November 5, 2011 the Three Million Dollar Breeders Cup Turf was run. There were fourteen that went to the gate for this and the most notable was # 3 Bronze Sabre looking to make History, as he chased Alpha Ultimo to become the All Time Money Leader here at HRP. So lets now take a look on how the race unfolded.

This years winner of the Breeders Cup Turf is # 13 Loookin Goood. Coming into this one at odds of 58/1 was making his way back to Churchill Downs the site of where he won his last race in the Grade II American Turf. Getting away well from post thirteen and put on the lead by jockey Ramon Dominguez, as they hit the backside Ramon kept clear of the others by two lengths. Hitting the turn and coming into the stretch Ramon started to get busy on Loookin Goood, as # 1 Gurgling and # 8 Laffin Hyena loomed and Bronze Sabre bottled up. Into the stretch Ramon set him down and got him home putting the HRP into shock by Winning the Breeders Cup Turf at 58/1 and putting an end to Bronze Sabre chance of becoming the All Time Money leader at HRP for now. Going in 2:24.87 for the mile and a half on the sod. The 3yo gelding is owned and breed by Team Furey and the owner takes home a check for $1.800.000 for their efforts and giving owner Team Furey his first BC Win. Congratulations.

2nd Gurgling ~ Came in looking to make his way back to the winners circle since winning the Grade III Oceanport Stakes at Monmouth. Away fifth at the break and three lengths from the leader Loookin Goood, as he hit the top of the lane he took a run at Loookin Goood under jockey Chantal Sutherland, but the two could not get to him today and finished second after passing # 8 Laffin Hyena on the way. He finished a half a length back for owner Australia Wide and a nice run for the 18/1 shot, as they take home $600.000 for their run.

3rd # 8 Laffin Hyena ~ Tuned up for this by owner and breeder Ken Allan was hoping for a trip to the Winners Circle after three close calls in his three of his last four starts. Away sixth and five lengths from the front, as he hit the top of the stretch he found himself a length behind Loookin Goood. As jockey Alex Solis went to the whip Loookin Goood had something left and he was past by # 1 Gurgling and settled for third. Owner Ken Allan collects $480.000 for their BC trip.

4th # 10 Purple Ripple ~ Came in a winner of his last nine starts. His only recent set back was in his last one when running fourth. Now looking to rebound from last one was getting jockey M C Berry back aboard. Breaking third from post ten and sitting two lengths from the lead, as he turned the corner he gained ground on the others but not Loookin Goood and was just beat out for third by # 8 Laffin Hyena. He went out for Angelos Stable and the owner takes home a check of $120.000.

5th # 3 Bronze Sabre ~ Came in looking to make History here at HRP. A winner in three of his last four races was getting the nod by the public as the post time favorite. Away eight from post three, as jockey Robby Albarado sat in sixth with him turning for home Robby looked for running room and got some, but it was too late to catch Loookin Goood. This may have been the end of Bronze Sabre, as he will turn 7 next year. If it is it has been a Great Career for him. He went out for owner Maverick Racing.

6th # 4 Raise A Cowboy ~ Was making his first start for new owner Chilli King Stables. Breaking ninth of the fourteen was out seven lengths behind the leader, as he turned the corner he found himself way out in the middle of the track and could not close in on the others finishing sixth.

7th # 6 Rockefella ~ Came in looking to bounce back from two tough starts at Woodbine. Getting away tenth of the fourteen starters and eight lengths from the lead, as he found himself buried in behind horses he got free and made up ground to finish seventh for owner Barcelona Farms.

8th # 2 Dense Turf ~ Dropped back to eleventh at the start and eight lengths from the leader, as he came into the stretch he was another runner that found some late running room to move up to finish eighth. He went out for owner Some Devil Racing.

9th # 9 Royale Matchmaker ~ Off the board in his last two starts was hoping to turn it around. Away seventh at 113/1 and in mid pack, as he turned into the stretch he lost a couple of positions to finish ninth for owner and breeder Diablo Diablo.

10th # 7 Jethro Tull ~ Looked to bounce back from getting crushed in the Grade I Pattison Canadian International at Woodbine. Away twelfth at the break, as he came into the stretch he past two others to finish tenth for owner Whiteout Stables.

11th # Trench Bismo ~ The second entry for owner Maverick Racing got out second at the break and looking good, as he back up after a half mile and finished eleventh.

12th # 12 Plucky Mach ~ The second entry for owner Ken Allan was off to a good start. Getting away fourth at the sound of the bell, as he hit a half mile it was down hill from there running twelfth.

13th # 5 Pumpillian ~ Never took to the CD turf course on Saturday. Getting out last of fourteen at the break, as he came in the stretch jockey Joe Talamo got him up past Spiritual Fusion to finish thirteenth for owner and breeder Sanny Village.

14th # 14 Spiritual Fusion ~ The winner of the Hirsch Turf Classic and two in a row just never was involved on Saturday finishing last of the fourteen starters for owner and breeder Eastern Equine.

Congrats to All on a Great Race and to Bronze Sabre for the excitement he brought being the Two Time Defending Champ and Chasing that All Time Money Leader Alpha Ultimo.

This is Choppy I am OUT!
